Nuns

You all should say "thank you" to the good Sisters of Mercy, Sister Beatrice & Sister Lucille.
If it hadn't been for the nuns bending over us at St. Patrick's school with their rulers, I wouldn't have learned to spell, and if I hadn't learned to spell, then come Oct. 17th, you all would have been walking the streets of Little Rock with tee shirts that said "A-R-K-A-S-N-A-S State Library" on them.
Wendy and I went over to pick up the team tee shirts after work yesterday, and I must say, they do look awesome! But there was that one teeny tiny error on it. ARKASNAS. Wendy & I didn't think that would have been great publicity for the library, so we said, "no, thank you."
So, I am sad to report that we have no shirts to hand out to you today. But, they are going to re-do our shirts for us, and hopefully we'll have them next week. Keep your fingers crossed! And, say thanks to those teachers out there who try to teach youngsters everyday. They deserve a gold star. Especially the nuns at St. Patrick's.

when God closes a door....

When: last night, 10 pm
Who: middle-aged crazy woman & 1 HYPER dog with the poops OD'ing on vitamins
Where: bottom of the hill in the apt. complex parking lot

Yes, while I had you all out pondering last night, I was trying to get the border collie dog that I am taking care of all "pooped" out.
(Blitz, the wonder dog got hold of one of my vitamin jars and ate half of them. The emergency vet said she would be hyper, but she didn't mention the diarrhea!)
So, last night I'm out trying to get the dog to do her business, and my foot decides it's had enough. It wasn't going to walk anymore, wasn't going to support the weight, wasn't going to do ANYTHING. Where was I? At the bottom of the parking lot. Did I have my cell phone with me? Nooooooo....Did the dog care a whit about what was going on? Noooooo....so as I was being half drug by a crazed dog and half limping back to home, it suddenly occurred to me that I wouldn't have to go thru any more torture sessions at War Memorial! And while my feet were gleeful at that prospect, it really saddened me that I'm not going to be able to finish the torture program, which, even tho I whine about it, I really did look forward to every week. So now I won't get to bore you all with my bi-weekly whines....
As to a window opening whenever a door is being closed, well, I'm not sure yet what that is. I'll miss the camraderie of the fitness group and I'll miss seeing how far Miss Betty gets each week (yep, she's showing up every time!).
Where am I going with this blog? I don't know, I guess I just wanted to get my whining out of the way....So if any of you are inspired to pick up where I left off at War Memorial, please, do so. I'm sure they will welcome you with open arms. There were several newbies there this past Monday, and they all survived! And if you do go, tell Miss Betty I said hi.

Ponderings

I've been pondering all day what to blog to you all...
I did make it to War Memorial on Monday for my twice weekly torture session....then I had to sit and ponder most of the day yesterday after I left the doctor's office about why do feet give out when we don't want them to....
I thought about people we know who have had or now have the big "C". One of the nurses at the doctor's yesterday just celebrated her 5th year of being a survivor--Yeah! (I was wearing last year's RFTC shirt, so she told me she was a survivor. Real sweet lady.)
Then I pondered about tee shirts...hmm, do I tell them their shirts are ready at the tee shirt makers? Do I tell them they will get them sometime this week? hmm....
Well, if it's not raining or cloudy tonight, go out and look at the sky, and ponder about stuff. Then let me know what you pondered about.

race packets

Good Monday morning!
I hope you all had fun weekend. Now it's back to work!
I just wanted to mention that for the folks who registered ONLINE with your credit card, you should either be getting your shirt soon, or have already gotten it. If you don't receive your race packet in the next week or two at your home address, please let me know.
If you gave Wendy or me your money & registration form, those forms & $$ all went in at the same time. Those will either be mailed in one box here at the library, or I will receive notification to go pick them up.
The colors this year on the shirts are pink & plum, so plan your Race Day outfit accordingly!
Also, tonite is another date with the Fitness crew at War Memorial. It's not too late to get those sneakers laced up and ready to go.
6:30pm, remember, it's FREE!!!!
See ya!

more advice...

If you want to eat out, help the economy, and donate money all at the same time, do I have a deal for you!
From now until Oct. 18th, you can help Applebee's raise $$ for Susan G. Komen!
Applebee's Restaurants is launching its annual fundraising program for the Central Oklahoma, Tulsa and Arkansas Affiliates of Susan G. Komen for the Cure in conjunction with National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The fundraiser will run from until Oct. 18.
Guests who dine at any of the 21 Applebee's in Oklahoma and Arkansas will have the opportunity to donate a minimum of $1 to the Central Oklahoma, Tulsa and Arkansas Affiliates of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
For their generosity, guests will be recognized with their name written on a paper Komen Running Ribbon hung prominently in the restaurant.
The goal is to raise $40,000.

advice from Dr. Judi

I was a slacker last night--
I didn't go walk in the Komen Fitness program. My body was not up to it, so I didn't push myself. But that doesn't mean I get to stop pushing you all to get out there and make sure you are ready for this race!
I hope you all are at least walking and getting ready for October 17th. I think your body will appreciate it if you get a little ready for the 5K. If you expect to just go from the couch to walking (or running) on Race morning, I think your body is going to want to have a word or two with you afterwards!
So remember to get some exercise between now and October 17th (which is now less than a month away), be sure to drink plenty of water, get rest, take your vitamins, and get your GOOD carbs (HINT: the Pasta Party will be on October 16th, that will be a *great* opportunity to get your carbs before the Race!) What else? volunteering at the Race Space will be another way to feel good about yourself. The boutique will open October 2nd at the Pleasant Ridge Shopping center on Hwy 10 (where it was last year). If you know of anyone who can work there on weekday afternoons, Komen is really needing volunteers for those times especially.
So, what are you supposed to do between now and October 17th?
Exercise
drink plenty of water
eat right
rest
volunteer
buy yourself a ticket to the Pasta Party
Your body will thank you for it!
